Moderate Geomagnetic Storming Underway
at
4:03 am
Appaently we are in the midst of a Type II Radio Emission from the Sun. Not sure what effects it could have, but it's quite a powerful, unexpected blast...
I wonder if it's linked to the Sun's Pole shift being due this last fortnight
"2013-12-08 02:37 UTC Moderate Geomagnetic Storming Underway
Earth is now under the influence of a stronger than expected coronal hole high speed stream. G2 (Moderate) geomagnetic storming has been observed and continued low-level storming is possible over the next 24 hours as Earth remains under the influence of this high speed solar wind. Stay tuned for updates."

Remember that solar eruption from a few days ago? It just hit Earth | Basic Space, Scientific American Blog Network
This doesn’t always induce currents in the ground. But when it does, sometimes there are disastrous effects.
In March 1989, a geomagnetic storm caused the collapse of Hydro-Québec’s electricity transmission system.
Six million people were without power for nine hours.

Spaceweather reports huge CME
at
10:16 pm
June 14th:
for the second day in a row, sunspot AR1504 erupted and hurled a CME toward Earth.
The fast-moving (1360 km/s) cloud is expected to sweep up a previous CME and deliver a combined blow to Earth's magnetic field on June 16th around 10:16 UT.
This animation shows the likely progression of the approaching storm:
