Sounds ridiculous, and it is a bit really, but it's about the right to celebrate what you believe in, which in my humble opinion I think shouldn't be screwed with!

Interestingly though, for those who aren't already aware, according to the date of Immaculate Conception (8th December) Jesus Christ's birthday should really be marked as In the summer months, and what we are really doing is unwittingly celebrating upon a Pagan festival! The idea of buying gifts is not much to do with Jesus being born (apparently he was given gifts some time after being born, and not when he was born!)
And Father Christmas has no real connection to speak of (sorry kids).
Apparently this was all changed from celebrating simply Jesus' birth to a day of mixed cultural and religious beleifs and practices to all be practiced in December, starting back in the 1800s!
